City of Winkler Fire Danger Level Definitions

DL 0-2 – Controlled burning allowed where permitted - Fireworks permits may be issued - Burn permits may be issued where allowed - Use of recreational firepits are permitted

DL 3 – No controlled burns - Fireworks permits may only be issued if an approved plan for fire control capabilities are in place (see note 2) – Burning permits cancelled - Use of recreational firepits are still permitted

DL 4 – No controlled burns – No fireworks – Use of enclosed recreational firepits are still permitted (see note 3) A fire ban will be implemented if this condition persists and/or conditions are not forecasted to improve (see note 4)

FIRE BAN – Extreme fire danger trend established - No fires – No fireworks – No firepits - (see note 6)

Notes:

  1. Fire Danger Levels are set with information provided daily by the Provincial Wildfire Program, based on conditions at the Morden weather station.

  2. Approved firefighting capabilities include an adequate supply of water, and means of extinguishing a fire is on site during the event.

  3. Enclosed” fire pits have a metal screen mesh/spark arrestor over the opening.

  4. Fire restrictions can vary by area, dependent on factors such as localized precipitation, the vegetation cover type, and land use such as cropland, pasture, grassland, forested, industrial or residential.

  5. Check your local authority for your current fire danger level. The RM of Stanley burning regulations are found at https://rmofstanley.ca/

  6. Use of barbecues and fire tables fueled by propane or natural gas are still permitted. They do not emit sparks or embers. No pellet stoves

Fire Danger is a relative index of how easy it is to ignite vegetation, how difficult a fire may be to control, and how much damage a fire may do.
